Preventative Care for Your Pet’s Well-being

At IAH Vet, we believe in the importance of preventative care for your pet’s overall well-being. Regular preventative care can help to detect health issues early on, before they become serious or life-threatening. Our veterinarians can identify and treat conditions such as dental disease, skin infections, parasites and obesity, which can significantly impact your pet’s quality of life.

Importance of Regular Pet Check-Ups

Regular check-ups are an essential part of preventative care for your pet. During a consultation, our veterinarians will conduct a thorough physical exam, assess your pet’s health, and recommend any necessary treatments or interventions. Check-ups also provide an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about your pet’s health or behaviour.

FAQs

We recommend that pets receive a check-up at least once a year. However, this may vary depending on your pet’s age, breed and health status. Puppies and kittens may require more frequent visits, while senior pets may benefit from more frequent check-ups to monitor for age-related conditions.

Vaccinations are essential to protect your pet from infectious diseases. The vaccines your pet requires will depend on their age, lifestyle and risk of exposure. Our veterinarians can recommend a vaccination schedule for your pet, which may include core vaccines, such as distemper and rabies, as well as non-core vaccines for specific diseases, such as kennel cough. However most dog facilities such as puppy preschool, dog day care or long term boarding kennels require a kennel cough vaccination.

Parasites, such as fleas, ticks and heartworm, can cause a range of health problems for your pet. We recommend preventative measures, such as regular parasite screenings, flea and tick prevention and heartworm prevention medication. Our veterinarians can provide advice on the best parasite prevention plan for your pet.

Allergic reactions can be serious and require immediate veterinary attention. Signs of an allergic reaction may include itching, hives, swelling, vomiting or difficulty breathing. If you suspect your pet is having an allergic reaction, contact our clinic immediately for advice and treatment.
